An exciting event is coming to our area. The first Northwest Florida Artificial Reef Workshop since 2006 will be held February 19 – 20, 2013 at the Niceville Community Center. The community center is centrally located in the Panhandle. The public is invited to attend all sessions of the workshop with a registration fee of $40.00 for two days that includes meals and refreshments. Sessions and guest speakers will provide the latest information regarding Reef Designs, Artificial Reefs and Fisheries Management, Monitoring Tools, Goals, and Strategies, Artificial Reef Construction Issues in Inshore and Nearshore State Waters, The Economic Benefits and Impacts of Artificial Reefs in NW Florida, and other artificial reef topics of local interest.

A special part of the workshop will occur Tuesday evening from 6-8pm and is free. The Evening Expo will feature booths and information. Representatives from local artificial reef association such as Mexico Beach Artificial Reef Association and Emerald Coast Reef Association will highlight their monitoring and reef construction activities. Florida Fish and Wildlife and Florida Sea Grant Extension will have representatives to provide the public with reef fish resources. Additionally, many vendors, local county artificial reef coordinators, and private individuals will share innovations in reef construction and monitoring.

Workshop organizers are seeking additional vendors, sponsors, and/or donations of promotional items. We invite your suggestions and feedback to help the steering committee identify and prioritize agenda topics through a brief online survey.
